This article is concerning the events of the draft from June 3 to June 6 onwards, on a training site established by the Third Party Cult, and to give to the residents in general a report of the events surrounding the battle. While this report was written initially to my unit, I'm leaving this report open for viewing for the non-drafted as well.

Much of the information regarding the draft has been varied, so I will offer a first-hand account and a general report gathered from both the battlefield and the journal logs for everyone to read, and prepare the residents for future battles we may be sent to later.

CPO SPARTAN-023
0800 Hours, June 10, 2531 (Military Calendar) / Luceti.

PREPARATIONS

Upon organization, all units were sent to a variant of the dorms at 0900 hours of June 3, with the warning that every requisition we asked for would have to last until the end of the fourth day of the draft. The Blue Rogues and a few other units organized themselves for their actions in battle, and some of them requested and modified the equipment to be able to carry and use in the establishment of the camp.

At 1300 Hours, all units were sent to combat. The first priority consisted in the establishment of the headquarters at all costs, setting a rendezvous point on a mesa where standing and solid remains of a ruin were located, and drawing maps over the Drafted Journal Network as we advanced. Several units had to push through cultists, vines, uneven terrain, traps, and stone ruins, all the way to the higher grounds, on a site with ample construction remains that could be used by the residents as cover.

Creation of the headquarters on lower grounds, in vines, would have been a strategic disaster. With the flight capabilities of the Third Party, in addition to the rains and the drought that would follow on the last day, the camp would have been impossible to defend. Hence why the entry points were abandoned as soon as all units entered combat.

Cannons, machineguns, mines, spikes, and several other traps were set around and inside the camp, near the walls of the ruins. Some units remained to defend the post along with non-combatants, to treat the future injured in battle and keep food and water available to everyone in the following days.

BATTLE

For the first three days, both the drafted and the Third Party engaged in guerrilla warfare against eachother. The cultists would often rely on surprise attacks and their aerial capabilities to take advantage of the tall trees of the jungle, though our enemy had the advantage of a superior knowledge of the terrain, hence why several traps were set, both of mechanical and personal nature. With the addition of Shift Hunters to their ranks, many of our units were taken by surprise by them.

Another of the dangers were the fauna native to the jungle. Some residents were ambushed by creatures not only listed on the guide, but by others from other worlds that could have been the result of shifts of Luceti that set them on the combat zone. Not only were predators the dangers, though. Many insects and mosquitoes lived in the area, which ended up spreading diseases among many of the drafted.

The Drafted caused many casualties on the enemy, but extended warfare took the toll on several residents, along with the diseases some of them catched in the operation (Many of them not felt until the dormant stage of the illness ended). Combat, along with the diseases catched, would end up causing exhaustion and fever on several combatants, all the way until their return to the village.

With the inability to return to the dorms to rest and request equipment, many residents had to endure sleeping on the environment. Constant battle conditions and the threat of surprise attacks during the night wore the drafted even further.

DEFENSE

On the fourth day, the weather turned for the worse. Winds of very strong nature along with a monsoon hit the combat area, flooding the lower grounds and forcing many of the drafted to abort combat operations they had at the moment. This, along with the exhaustion of combat, disease, and incompatibility shifts, turned offensive movements into a dangerous venture at best.

The enemy slowly gained momentum after the assaults they had received, many of the offensive movements began to be pushed back. The Third Party launched a full-scale attack against the base, with at least ten times the number of combatants noted in the previous draft. All units were immediately ordered to return to the headquarters to aid in the defense of the base. The battle that followed turned into a siege.

Most of the traps laid out were quickly used during the assault; cannons were detonated and disabled, and munitions began to run low; the winds became too unstable for aircraft to operate in, and even some of the non-combatants had to fight at one point during the battle. Priority tasks were the defense of the hospital camp (harboring WIA and sick units from the previous days), and the neutralization of all enemies that had infiltrated the compound.

The siege endured until the day set to end operations, after which all units were transported back to the village.

AFTERMATH

At exactly 0000 hours of June 7, all of the drafted were teleported back to the village in several points, many of them still with the conditions attained in battle. Many of the sick and wounded were transferred to the clinics and given medicaments to fight off the diseases attained while in the area. Many of them still suffer from malaria and yellow fever of various degrees.

Enemy casualty count estimated to be over two thousand, but the result of this operation is debatable: Maps were drawn in the midst of the operation and shared over the Drafted Journal Network, which should be good for at least three months; Friendly casualty count in comparison to the enemy is vast, but the conditions to endure a battle in the rainforest beyond the four days of the operation, in addition to the unexpected numbers of the Third Party Cult, were insurmountable for the amount of drafted to overcome; most importantly, the general objectives to neutralize all enemy personnel and take control of the training grounds could not be accomplished with the ranks sent to battle.

Three residents were reported KIA. Many residents returned sick from the jungles, and some of them are still being treated for malaria and yellow fever as of this report. Count of WIA and ill friendly units is yet to be determined.

((OOC: Forgive the second Teal Deer! Anyway, I know Helios and Kain were killed in action, though I remember there was a third dead guy. If there wasn't, or if the number is incorrect and there were more, please tell her!))

[It was painful, disturbing and terrifying to read, but Robert read all of it.

It takes him awhile to respond, but when he does:]

Th-thank you for all the information, Ms. D-Daisy.

... I... g-greatly appreciate it.

I trust you are... d-doing better, now...? P-Perhaps?

I am g-glad to hear that...

["I've had experience with jungle warfare" is a somewhat-terrifying sentence all on its own, but Robert supposes that Daisy would have experience with most kinds of warfare.

... Funny how that worked, how it was pretty much the opposite of his experience.]

You know... m-much about war, I a-assume. I mean, it... it is your career, I suppose... if, if you w-want to call it that.

...

Do you th-think these conditions will... continue for subsequent drafts...?

...

... Th-there... there is always a chance that I... I c-could be... t-taken.

[There is so much revulsion in his voice that it might be terrifying, but he definitely is paying attention to this possibility now.]

It... w-would be pragmatic for me to... l-learn more about the drafts, at... a-at the very least...

Th-though I will... c-certainly resist if at all possible, but... [Quietly:] It d-does no good...

I-I... I am already being t-trained, to an extent, but... I... I-I would appreciate your insight, Ms. Daisy.

[Pragmatism. This is purely research. He won't use any of it, if it comes down to it. He won't ever hurt anybody or anything, not if he can help it. Not on purpose.

...

That's what he's going to tell himself, anyway. The alternative is to go a little crazy.]

I wish there was... a w-way to predict...

My training is... of present, simple exercises. Mike, Don's b-brother, was responsible for them s-so far.

... Perhaps we could m-meet and discuss something at some point.

[He does want to be prepared. But this is something he has no idea how to prepare for.]

Would there be a t-time that would be suitable for you? I mean, you must be very busy...

[Surely somebody important like Daisy, who probably has much to do in Luceti, wouldn't necessarily have time to speak to him.

... Of course, he's just putting himself down again, really.]

[Such is the life of a Spartan in Luceti, right?]

Perhaps afterwards... th-things are still, well... d-difficult for me. P-Perhaps contact me whenever you are... a-available?

... Thank you again, though, for the offer.

I... look forward to it then, Ms. Daisy.

[And of course, by the time they speak (probably), Daisy will be a moe-blob and Robert a social butterfly.

... This'll be an interesting meeting.]

Thank you for this. I'll look it over thoroughly.

I'll keep it easily accessible.

Thank you for all the details.

[He is?]

Any information given is better than none at all.

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[So that's how it all went down. It's not even a long read, not really, and Charlotte is surprised at the ease of language and how much she can comprehend of it. Somehow, she expected that a soldier girl like Daisy when she was serious would be up on a platform she could never reach.

She had to think a moment about WIA and KIA even so. But then she nods. Okay... okay.]

So that's all that you experienced, Daisy?

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Putting it all together like this... you guys really did do you best, didn't you? It's impressive to hear how many people made it out okay.

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as they have a strong will though, shouldn't they get better from being sick?

A promise...?

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
-Oh! Right! [She beams here, smiling and now remembering what they talked about back then]

So we can do it together!

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
...No, Daisy, we're baking, not fighting.

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
So... maybe we'll go get ingredients for it tomorrow, and then cook, um... Tuesday, maybe? [She assumes Daisy might need... a bigger rest period] You can practice a little before then, too.

[identity profile] hazelrink.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay! So we'll met at my house on the fourteenth and bake up a storm!

[Mulder has been pretty out of it since getting back, but his investigative side never entirely rests.]

That describes our situation well. Thank you, for compiling all of this.

Good. Considering how they operate and give us so little to go on, I'm sure we're going to need information like this in the future.

Can't you just simplify it? What is with those terms? I don't know what the heck KIA means!

Most residents find it simpler to disseminate less formal summaries of the events. Of course, details are lost in the process.
