[She had been here before. The feeling of a body too heavy to move, and the difficult breathing of a perforated lung. The nightmares had become all too familiar to her, but the days earlier disturbed her whole being. The images of Halsey's teams of scientists returned to her.

They had taken her. They experimented on her. They used her.

The Chief Petty Officer lays helpless on the ground, with injuries that would've usually been too minor for a Spartan, as her head wearily looks for option. She spots the journal, and with whatever remained of her strength, she holds on to it, and whispers.]

This is Sierra TwentyThree. I need assistance.

[She prompty drops it, knowing it would somehow follow her. It always did. Both when she wanted, and when not. This place had softened her. It wasn't supposed to happen. None of this was. This was the cost of her complacency.]

((OOC:Daisy's injuries are minor (even by her standards), but she suffers as if she had a perforated lung.))

The clinic, but, if there's a chance of a puncture after all, I wouldn't want to move you.

Ma'am. I'm more resistant than that.

[She's a goddamned Spartan. Though how much is pride and how much is truth is up to question.]

I have to be a responsible doctor at all times.

...Hn. I understand.

[You could have also ordered Daisy that, and she would have obeyed. Ami technically had rank over her.]

But how will you work?

I'll have to do the best I can until we can be sure of your status.

Affirmative. [With nothing else she can do to change the Doctor's mind, and being outranked, the Chief decides to roll with it.] I'm ready.

[Fortunately, having someone in an awkward condition isn't exactly new in Luceti, which is why Ami keeps a small bag of supplies pinched from the clinic ready for emergency on-call visits, so to speak. She begins getting ready the implements she'll need.]

I'd like to do a thorough examination, but we'll do what we can for now.

[The Chief takes a breath (a not too deep one, of course), preparing herself. At least her condition had been improved somewhat.]

What will you do first?

Vital signs. Temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and the like.

Some things will be high. For me, might be normal.

[What Daisy means, particularly, are those signs that would be high but considered normal for Spartans -blood pressure and heartrate, given the demands of their augmented bodies-.

Even then, as tests are performed, it's evident that they have all increased above her average. While everyone else had made a lot of progress on halting and reducing the reach of her injuries, the possibility of an internal injury draws disturbingly close.]

[Ami frowns to herself. She really doesn't like the numbers.]

Please tell me your average blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.

[For her part, Daisy slowly reaches for her journal, and looks for a specific page -medical info she had written down for cases like these-, and after finding the correct page, she shows it to Ami.

They're greater than those of unaugmented human beings. But Daisy's current numbers were higher. SPARTAN-023 was starting to worry.]

[A few glances between the numbers to compare, and Ami's lips pull into a frown. This was fairly serious.]

Is there anything from your treatment back home I should know?

[A lot of that was classified information. She does not want to say that she received her treatment when she was just fourteen, and was changed from a small girl to an eighteen-year-old greek athlete within days. But for this, she chooses to only give approximates. For her skin to be saved, at least. There is hesitation before she replies.]

I received treatment home to increase my strength, speed, and senses. Among them, a few consisted in making my bones unbreakable, increasing growth of muscle and bone tissue, and injections to increase muscle density. One of the side-effects was that more blood is pumped.

It sounds similar to growth hormone therapy, although they seem to have found a way to increase the effects and make them more rapid. That could have an adverse effect on other systems, however...

[Right. This is not really the time to get distracted with that.]

[To be frank, the thought terrifies her, and she was right -moreso since she had received the treatment at a young age-. The Chief answers neutrally, but it is more to calm herself rather than Ami.]

Negative. After these augmentations... [For those that survived them, and were not crippled for life.] There were no negative side-effects. We operated with utmost efficency for years. No problems were reported among us because of them.

[But realizes the doctor had other things in her mind. Daisy goes quiet.]

...But what?

No; what I should think about right now is your wounds. Later, we can run some tests.

[Daisy calms down somewhat.]

Yes, ma'am. [SPARTAN-023 replies as if she had been given an order: Lay still, and calm herself.]

Umm... this may be sort of weird for me to say, but, you can relax a little.

[She looks at Ami for a moment. Then, she takes a breath, lays her head and arms on the ground, and closes her eyes, entering in a state of zen meditation.]

There. That'll be easier to bear with the examination.

[Time passes for the Spartan. Rydia teleports her to the Battle Clinic, and with more equipment at the disposal of Ami, SPARTAN-023's meditation deepens, until given the order by the Doctor to rest for her to treat her appropiately.

In spite of the nightmares she had in her sleep of Halsey's scientists opening her to change her, and of the Malnosso doing the same to her, she wakes up in the hospital bed.

And the first thing she sees, is the Doctor.]

Ami...?

It's me. How are you feeling today?

[She carries a few papers - of course she'd be organized enough to keep records of the people she's treated here. Somewhere, the records of Keiichi's medicine are probably also among her things, but hidden.]

[SPARTAN-023 takes a deep breath to wake herself up, but while she expected a piercing pain the more air she inhaled, her lungs filled normally.

She feels some pain, and cannot move much. But other than that, she was alive, and the wound was treated. That alone was a success for her.]

Green, ma'am. [A truth for all the Spartan was concerned.] You did this...?

[She was good at her calling. During medical school, she'd often given advice to one of the surgeons - who asked her to keep it secret, but that hadn't bothered her too much. She brushes off the question.]

As long as you're feeling a little better. You were really injured. The Malnosso went too far this time.
