[Comm matters taken care of, she goes to House Twenty, having quite remembered the matter of the hat, and it's implications. With two knocks on the front door, the armored figure calls out.]

Mr. Castagnier.

[After that...]

[Later in the day, having gotten the package, the 7ft tall girl in red armor goes to the Clinic, hat in hand, to see if there's equipment there to see if there are hairs in it to analyze for DNA. Yes, for her, that damned hat is that important.]

[Oh, she identifies that frown, especially from a suit of a post-21th-century era. And a quick scan by herself on the equipment does little to give her confidence -- Not only for the need of forensic equipment, but for things that were practically law to use in medicine in her world. What she'd do for biofoam or medigel.]

No equipment from our eras?

[But, since there are better manners to start a conversation, the girl in a specialized suit of war armor with a hat in her hands calmly calls his name.]

Doctor Hastings.

... [Whelp. That gets his attention quickly. Robert turns to face Daisy with an awkward half-smile.]

... Ms. Daisy. [Or should I call you something different...]

... U-Unfortunately, no. The technology here is... repugnantly backwards. [He exhales irritatedly, running a finger over the console of the X-ray machine.] I heard from Doctor McCoy that the technology here is limited to the "twenty-first century", so that summarily rules out anything I would be used to.

... Granted, some of these tools look like archaic versions of Terran ones.

[He snorts.] But evidently, the Malnosso have clearly forgotten to implement proper biomedical scanners - not even crude MRI or PET-type scanners. Which is quite a shame, as I meant to do study with them... it is especially important now that I know people who would rely on biomedical scan information.

... Is there something you were looking for, Ms. Daisy? [Because that hat kinda got his attention.]

[The appropiate title would've been "Chief", though not many here are familiarized with military terms, so she's not as bothered.]

No sterilized field generators? No localized radiation equipment? No biofoam? [She sees the equipment by herself, and shakes her head. Archaic versions or not, they didn't give her much conficence.] Too backwards.

[Well, since she was no longer speaking through the journals, she raises the hat. Catherine's hat.]

Forensic gear. [But, since there are no MRI nor PET scanners...] Catherine gave someone this hat. I want to see if the Malnosso are human.

...It's going to be difficult. [Moreso without the gear she needs.]

[Robert wouldn't know military terms at all. Though he could learn, if she wanted...]

... I am afraid that nothing of the sort exists at all. Irritatingly, the Malnosso do not seem to want to make the most effective use of the multiverse-worth of technology that they have access to via our worlds, but I suppose that seems to fit with their general methods...

[Robert recognizes the hat now that he's paying attention to it.]

... That would be a splendid idea. Analysis of the material for trace samples, like sweat, skin cells, stray hairs, and the like...

[He deflates after a moment.] Yes. Very difficult. Especially if they lack proper biomedical scanners. Why, I'm starting to doubt if they even have three-dimensional electron microscopes...

Perhaps Don and I could help, though. I would certainly be fascinated to see the results of this.

[He hopes the sample isn't contaminated though. ~~Even though it would be at least from Emil...~~]

[~~Emil stuck the hat in his freezer. Does that count?~~ Either way, her visor looks at the hat, in thought.]

Maybe they just get from constants. 21st century Earth is the most common source around here. [That, or do they think giving them tech is already too much power?] If we lack the equipment... Can we build it?

[There is always a way.]

How much does Don know about this stuff? [Machinery is what they need.] We have plenty of medics. But I'd still like state-of-the-art tech.

[Constants. That would make sense.] Sort of a... mode, I suppose. The most common denominator.

We may be able to build it, or at least a functional replica. But I am not certain; parts are incredibly difficult to find here, and I do not relish the thought of deconstructing the existing equipment here. I have a... [Acquaintance? Friend?]... I know somebody who depends on it.

[Robert shakes his head.] I am not certain, but he is a veritable genius in engineering. Still, I doubt forensics is his forté... are there any forensics workers here in Luceti that might have more knowledge?

I want to keep all of this off the journals. I don't think the locked comm will be worth using unless we get results. The less the Malnosso know what we know, the better.

[Might as well let Hastings know her concerns. Counter-intelligence is important where she's from. And dismantling vital equipment isn't something she might be too fond of, either.]

We have a lot of medics. [She repeats, shaking her head.] But I don't know if we have forensic ones. I want to talk to Ami about it in person.

[Her visor turns to him.]

If he can build something like that, or find someone that knows that stuff, we could get one.

I can see the merit in that. [Robert nods gently, frowning a little.] The Malnosso have such thorough analyses of us regardless that it is best to minimize their access to information, if at all possible.

... Ah, you know Doctor Mizuno as well? [First time Daisy mentioned her by name.] I... think that would be best. She may know forensic scientists or doctors here.

And I am certain Don would try to make it, or barring that, attempt to enlist help.

... [Robert sighs frustratedly.] It might be a ludicrous suggestion, but do you think the Malnosso themselves would provide the technology...? ... Though, I would rather not go that route if we can avoid it. It would... make our intentions obvious, I suspect.

Catherine is the one to ask to for requisitions. But he's the one that gave the hat to Emil. [That is the problem. That they would immediately become suspicious.

She lets a silent sigh from her armor.] She's a friend of mine. Seems talking personally to the medics, Ami, and Don will be our choice. Maybe the Blue Rogues could know someone. But the less we use the journals for this, the better.

... I would ask Ms. Molly, but she would probably suspect things as well.

Still, I did mean to ask her for equipment regardless. The lack of MRI and PET scanners here is unacceptable. [Robert snorts gently, sweeping his gaze around the room... despite knowing that he won't see anything of the sort, but it's a reflex.] There is an X-ray machine, but that will hardly be helpful in these circumstances.

... I apologize that I cannot do more, Ms. Daisy. I am remarkably limited in this situation. [Which is frustrating, because Robert hates it when he can't be helpful.]

[The Chief resists the instinct to bump Robert's shoulder. While it was a friendly gesture among Spartans, she was unsure if the Doctor would feel comfortable with physical contact, moreso from a Spartan.]

You're already helping me a lot. But if we're gonna take time, might as well find a way to freeze the samples.

Something that won't involve someone's freezer.

... A freezer...? [Robert frowns, blinking a bit at that.]

Yes, that is certainly substandard protocol for keeping specimens intact.

... Do you think there would be any sort of cryogenic storage here? Perhaps for cell cultures, if there are indeed any cultures here? [If there aren't, he's going to cry.] Surely there can't be an entire lack of the technology...

[~~And the mun would also love to know this, sob.~~]

Failing that? We could get Ami to freeze it.

[It was amusing to see Covenant Elites frozen on the spot, but as a good Spartan, she sees tactical and strategic utility in a lot of things.]

I don't see why shouldn't there be. It's standard procedure. [Then again, very little in Luceti was standard.]

Doctor Mizuno is capable of that? [This comes as a surprise to Robert. Not a bad surprise, mind you; just a surprise. (The bad part already happened.)]

... And you are correct, but unfortunately little of this place is particularly predictable in terms of its standardization policies.

That, and I have not seen any evidence of even basic cell culturing. [Yeah, he's gonna go be a sad panda of an astrobiologist soon.]

I've seen her do it. [It is fun.]

[She takes off her helmet to be able to caress her forehead.] Too little equipment. We'll need someone's ice cream space again.

[This is of course joking, but it means not only that they'll need someone to freeze it, but that they'll probably have to either fool the Malnosso into giving them the equipment, or build the gear themselves.]

Well, in that case, she might be willing. [Robert kind of wants to see it himself ~~though he'd be horrified if she flash-froze anything living~~ now. He likes getting visual confirmation of things.] And if there are no formal cell cultures here...

... The lack of technology here is so frustrating. [Finally, somebody Robert can baw about technology to! He presses a hand irritably to his face.] Just... everything here is utterly backward. Not a single transport pod to be seen...

[He sighs.] Though I have been able to adjust, it is still unpleasant at times.

Tell me about it.

[She leaves the hat on a nearby table, and since her full weight in armor cannot be laid on a common chair, she just sits on the floor, leaning on a wall.]

Thought it'd be harder for me, though. Still miss much of the tech.

The lack of medical technology is particularly worrying. [Softly:] My... friend... [- because he can accept calling her that, now, in his head -] has... has a condition that could be completely treated in my world. But here there is almost nothing we can do.

It is beyond frustrating, knowing the means exist to fix a problem, and yet being able to access those means.

[And Robert glowers at the floor.]

[Daisy looks at him, then sighs in frustration.

And the radiation-powered machines are brutally primitive, tumors would become an actual threat in here. Most people from the Spartan's universe don't even know what cancer is.]

...There's magic. [...Absurd, it may be, but it was what fixed her armor.]

[Even MRI and PET scanners from the 21st century use weak radioactive compounds to scan properly. So yes, the exposure to radiation is indeed an issue if they were to be used constantly. It's a risk that Robert thinks is worth taking though, especially considering the alternative, which is nothing at all.]

...

I... I do not understand magic. Nor can I use it in any way, as far as I know.

[He does not like trusting things he cannot use or understand, and really, until Daisy mentioned it, he hadn't even thought about it. That's how used to logical things he is.]

I can't, either. [She's that honest, if anything.] But it's an option. Spartans use everything to their favor.

[...Even if said things violate the laws of reality as she knows them.

She walks up to him, offering her hand.]

Maybe we could look for me for this.

... I suppose it makes sense to utilize what we have at our disposal, even if it is... patently illogical in some ways. At least to my universe's physics.

[He notices the hand, and for a beat, he doesn't do anything... hand-touching is something that is extremely poignant for Robert, and means quite a bit.

Eventually he cautiously takes it, and Daisy will probably feel just how weak his grip is. She might be reminded of their time in the AU - but this is an even gentler hold, if that's possible.]

... I would not be... adverse.
