[She had been here before. The feeling of a body too heavy to move, and the difficult breathing of a perforated lung. The nightmares had become all too familiar to her, but the days earlier disturbed her whole being. The images of Halsey's teams of scientists returned to her.

They had taken her. They experimented on her. They used her.

The Chief Petty Officer lays helpless on the ground, with injuries that would've usually been too minor for a Spartan, as her head wearily looks for option. She spots the journal, and with whatever remained of her strength, she holds on to it, and whispers.]

This is Sierra TwentyThree. I need assistance.

[She prompty drops it, knowing it would somehow follow her. It always did. Both when she wanted, and when not. This place had softened her. It wasn't supposed to happen. None of this was. This was the cost of her complacency.]

((OOC:Daisy's injuries are minor (even by her standards), but she suffers as if she had a perforated lung.))

[Ami drew no attention to the fact, at least. She hurried closer to Daisy as soon as she spotted her. Having been forewarned, she was carrying a small case with implements and bandaging and other devices she was likely to need. Her other hand had her laptop.]

I came as quickly as I could.

You're not late.

[The Spartan was still alive. But even with the healing magic she had already witnessed, some wounds remained. Most worrying, and she could not explain why, but she remained as if her left lung had been pierced.

They did something to her. The damage could have been internal... Or spectral.]

I think there are wounds remaining.

[Ami ran a practiced eye over the Spartan's form. Nothing that should be causing this apparent on the surface. Internal damage after all?]

How were you wounded?

The Malnosso. [She tries to remember, but in spite of the needles and artifacts she felt prying... her memory is too hazy.] I don't remember.

It feels like a punctured lung. But I don't see blood anywhere.

There would certainly be blood if it were an injury like that.

Unless it was internal.

[Even on that case, she still does not see abnormal skin swelling or anything that would hint about internal hemorrhaging. If she was a Doctor, but also knew about magic (or her world's approximation), she would know better than her. Daisy asks.]

Doctor. [Formality. She had a title, and the Spartan was expected to respect it. But even without them, she would've.] Is it possible to... "magically" hurt someone? Or give them pain?

Yes. [She doesn't explain, because she'd really rather not even think about just how she knows it.]

It's possible this is only a manifestation of pain, without injury.

[It simply can't be injury if they've already been treated, and there's no blood or sign of a wound that should be producing it. She'd like better equipment for scans to be sure, but...]

[The thought that such a thing is possible disturbs her more than an actual injury would.]

I'd like to know. Whatever you can check. [But if it is only a manifestation...] If it's magic... is there a way to beat it=

Most effects from the Malnosso wear off with time.

[Shoulda seen her when she came back. She doesn't let herself think about that, though there might be a twinge of envy that Daisy has people to help her.]

...Around a week. [SPARTAN-023 remembers the guide. She sighs in irritation as low as she can, with the limits imposed on her.]

Ma'am... Maybe someplace in the village has more equipment for you to work with. Someone could carry me. [The Spartan hopes, at least.]

The clinic, but, if there's a chance of a puncture after all, I wouldn't want to move you.

Ma'am. I'm more resistant than that.

[She's a goddamned Spartan. Though how much is pride and how much is truth is up to question.]

I have to be a responsible doctor at all times.

...Hn. I understand.

[You could have also ordered Daisy that, and she would have obeyed. Ami technically had rank over her.]

But how will you work?

I'll have to do the best I can until we can be sure of your status.

Affirmative. [With nothing else she can do to change the Doctor's mind, and being outranked, the Chief decides to roll with it.] I'm ready.

[Fortunately, having someone in an awkward condition isn't exactly new in Luceti, which is why Ami keeps a small bag of supplies pinched from the clinic ready for emergency on-call visits, so to speak. She begins getting ready the implements she'll need.]

I'd like to do a thorough examination, but we'll do what we can for now.

[The Chief takes a breath (a not too deep one, of course), preparing herself. At least her condition had been improved somewhat.]

What will you do first?

Vital signs. Temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and the like.

Some things will be high. For me, might be normal.

[What Daisy means, particularly, are those signs that would be high but considered normal for Spartans -blood pressure and heartrate, given the demands of their augmented bodies-.

Even then, as tests are performed, it's evident that they have all increased above her average. While everyone else had made a lot of progress on halting and reducing the reach of her injuries, the possibility of an internal injury draws disturbingly close.]

[Ami frowns to herself. She really doesn't like the numbers.]

Please tell me your average blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.

[For her part, Daisy slowly reaches for her journal, and looks for a specific page -medical info she had written down for cases like these-, and after finding the correct page, she shows it to Ami.

They're greater than those of unaugmented human beings. But Daisy's current numbers were higher. SPARTAN-023 was starting to worry.]

[A few glances between the numbers to compare, and Ami's lips pull into a frown. This was fairly serious.]

Is there anything from your treatment back home I should know?

[A lot of that was classified information. She does not want to say that she received her treatment when she was just fourteen, and was changed from a small girl to an eighteen-year-old greek athlete within days. But for this, she chooses to only give approximates. For her skin to be saved, at least. There is hesitation before she replies.]

I received treatment home to increase my strength, speed, and senses. Among them, a few consisted in making my bones unbreakable, increasing growth of muscle and bone tissue, and injections to increase muscle density. One of the side-effects was that more blood is pumped.

It sounds similar to growth hormone therapy, although they seem to have found a way to increase the effects and make them more rapid. That could have an adverse effect on other systems, however...

[Right. This is not really the time to get distracted with that.]
